The beauty of albums, is that they can take you on a journey. Every song is another step in the sonic world of the artist. You look at the artwork and it gives you a certain feeling; the music does the rest and your mind fills in all the blanks.
What I tried to do, is take that philosophy and pour it into electronic post music. An album you can listen to, yet also put it on while loafing around the house. An album that tells a story with little words– so your mind can fill in the blanks.
I was going through a dark time, grieving over the loss of several people in my life and I decided to turn this grief into creativity; the album turned out to be about grief in the largest sense. A journey through all the stages of grief.
I wanted to make a melancholic, almost lofi world that feels lived in, but also quite uncanny. I attempted to create this vibe with the exploration of electronics, sampling, tribal music and sounds from nature near my home. I recorded most of the instruments in my home studio and used several vintage synthesizers at HKU Sound Studio (located in Utrecht, Netherlands).
With that, the project revolves around several music video’s that all tell an abstract story about learning to cope with loss & death. Two of which are released: Let Go and You Will Never See Me Again.
They Say The Sun Is Dying is my ode to grief, a love letter to pain and a journey of self-discovery. I hope you enjoy it.
